We got off to a rough start touring D.C. yesterday. We went to the metro station as planned, went to the ticket machines and got six on-day metro passes for $54. It's worth it to not have to drive and park in the city. Well, problem is, we didn't know that one day passes can not be used before 9:30 a.m. Wanting to get an early start, we had no choice but to purchase separate fare to our first stop for the day... another $24. I was a little upset about that until I happened to find a $20 bill on the ground on the path along the reflection pool on the mall. FYI, the reflection pool is currently torn up, they're working on it, so no reflection. Otherwise, everything went pretty well, we saw a lot in a short amount of time, the Capital, White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, National Archives (like in National Treasure), Natural History Museum (like in Night at the Museum II), Ford's Theater, the National Cathedral, etc. You can't do everything in a day, but we hit so many highlights that I'd call it a success. Claire had a lucky day too, first she found a lucky penny, then she lost her first tooth.
