This was one of those pictures that absolutely had to be in black and white. All those darned colors were very distracting from the subject and the emotional feel of the picture. Once you take them away, it reveals the soul of the image. Then you can start to make a connection to it... Why is he here? What is his motivation? Is he a veteran? Did he lose someone close to him in the middle east? These are the questions that engulf your thoughts when you look past the distractions, and into the heart of the image.
