Happy Halloween! 285/365

We had a good Halloween today, with the elementary costume parade and party, magician at the library, hot dogs at the fire station, and of course, trick-or-treating.  This is a first, the whole family got in the spirit this year.  And I've got a family portrait to prove it.  Finally, I don't usually do pictures of myself.  But, I know at least a couple people wanted to see my new costume.  Happy Halloween!

Jack-O-Lanterns, 284/365

We usually carve pumpkins at least a couple more days in advance than this, but we've been so busy that we finally got them done today.

Center Grove Orchard, 283/365

We took the family to the Center Grove Orchard, along with the 4-H club on Saturday.  One of the unique things they had was a giant inflatable "pillow" for kids to jump on.

Numbers, 282/365

Matt started making Lego numbers tonight.  I took a picture when he got to seven, but he continued on after this.

Library, 281/365

I know that I have showed pictures of the downtown Des Moines Public Library before.  But, this is the scene at night, when I get out of class on Thursday nights.  During the day, this building is a copper brown color and can't be seen into from the outside.  But, after dark when the lights are in inside, everything becomes clearly visible.

Progress, 280/365

I don't know how long Howard Martin Auto Body in downtown Des Moines has been closed.  But, according to the big letters on the side of the building, they were established in 1936.  Another small business gone and demolished.

4-H Photo Shoot, 277/365

I led a 4-H photo shoot at Kendall Young Park in Webster City this afternoon.  It was a beautiful day, we could walk around without jackets.  Here are a few shots from the event

Walk, 276/365

Today was Matt and Claire's last regular soccer game, they still have a tournament next weekend though.  It was so nice out today, so I took the kids on a picture-taking walk, with a stop at the school playground this afternoon.

Pumpkin patch, 273/365

We at a quick supper after work today and headed down to Boone.  There was no CCD tonight, but it was the first chance we had to take the kids to the pumpkin patch.  There is a little patch just West of Boone that we found a couple years ago and like.  So, we got pumpkins for carving, painting, and of course, homemade pumpkin pie.

Life Flight, 272/365

My carpool got back to Ames after work and couldn't get into the parking lot where we leave our cars.  The fire department had the lot blocked off and there was a Life Flight helicopter landed in the middle of the lot.  So, we had to stay out for a few minutes while an ambulance arrived and transported a patient via helicopter.

Halloween lights, 271/365

I finally found our Halloween lights and got them put up this week.  This shot of Noelle "working" on the computer shows how orange they make our living room.

Sunset, coffee, 270/365

Rachael and I shot some sunset pictures of the cornfield behind the football field tonight.  And, it's shocking what a cup of coffee costs these days!  :-)

Wilson, go fly a kite, 269/365

Matt and Claire won their soccer game this morning.  I believe next weekend is their last game of the season.  This afternoon, I took the kids over to the park to fly kites.  We had to get out of the house and do something fun.

Occupy Des Moines protestor, 268/365

If you've had any exposure to the news lately, you probably know that the Occupy Wall Street movement has been spreading both nationally, and to other countries outside of the U.S.  I walked over to the capital today and got a picture of this protestor.  You can get the details from your favorite news outlet, but basically groups are gathering to denounce corporate greed.  By the way, I found out today what happens with my Polaroid to the paper negative when I don't peal the picture off right away.  Fujifilm may be self-terminating, and the print was ok, but the negative appears to have over processed and maybe solarized a little bit.  Still, I kind of like it anyway.

Flower, ripples, 267/365

I don't know for sure, but this could be my last outdoor flower shot of the year.  I was actually a little surprised to see this one.  Then, the water is still flowing through the landscaping by the library.  But, some leaves are starting to fall in it, making unusual ripple patterns as the water flows over and around them.

Slide carousel, 266/365

There are days when I have to come up with something at the last minute to keep this daily project alive.  Today is one of those days.

Full moon, 265/365

I'm finally down to 100 days left of this project.  The year has actually been going pretty fast.  I took a few shots of the moon tonight, but they just weren't working with me.  So, instead, I used the moon for backlighting to shoot the stadium lights over at the ball field.  It's kind of ironic really, a picture of a light, backlit with another light source.  And I like the cross shape, with kind of a halo effect from the full moon.

Daddy and kids day, 264/365

When I saw the school calendar for the year, that there was no school for the students today, I took the day off to have a special day with just me and the kids.  We didn't actually have time to wander too far from home, but had some fun none the less.  No pictures of this one, but I introduced the kids to tennis.  I don't actually know how to play, but at our current skill level, we don't really need to know the rules yet.  :-)  We had the courts to ourselves, there was no one else around.  Somehow, we went with 3 tennis balls, and left with 5...  Here are a few shots from our day, including Rachael getting 6th place at her last cross country meet of the season today.

Corncrib, costumes, 263/365

Rachael and I went out to take a picture of this corncrib on highway 175 this afternoon.  Then the kids tried on their costumes.  But, you'll have to wait to see Kim and my costumes.

Saturday, 262/365

It's been a busy, busy Saturday, but then most of them seem to be these days.  I shot some pictures of all the kids, but seemed to get a lot of Matt for some reason.  Well, and of course there was one of Rachael that I couldn't resist too.  :-)
